Senior Arizona Republican calls for Mueller’s resignation as Special Counsel

A longtime Representative of Arizona has asked for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to resign from the position the DOJ gave him to oversee the investigation into the Russian election interference, according to Fox News.

Congressman Trent Franks, a Republican member of the House Judiciary Committee, stated on Tuesday that Robert Mueller’s appointment could be in violation of the law that forbids Mueller from serving as the independent investigator into the Russia probe due to a possible conflict of interest.

Robert Mueller and fired FBI Director James Comey have been close associates since 2003 when the two worked in Washington, Mueller as the FBI chief and Comey as Deputy Attorney General. Trent Franks claims that the cordial relationship between Mueller and Comey is reason enough to remove Mueller from the position.

“Bob Mueller is in clear violation of federal code and must resign to maintain the integrity of the investigation into alleged Russian ties,” said the senior Arizona Congressman.

“Those who worked under them have attested he and Jim Comey possess a close friendship, and they have delivered on-the-record statements effusing praise of one another.”

President Donald Trump said the Mueller-Comey relationship was “bothersome.”

Congressman Franks also brought up the three attorneys Mueller hired who are known donors to Hillary Clinton and other Democratic candidates.

“Until Mueller resigns, he will be in clear violation of the law, a reality that fundamentally undermines his role as Special Counsel and attending ability to execute the law,” observed Franks.
